Seashell

It’s said if you hold a seashell to your ear

The sound of the ocean is what you may hear

And just like the seashell remembers the sea

If I had a seashell of your memory

I’d wear it round my neck to keep you with me.

I’d hold it to my ear for something to be heard

To hear you call my name, say one little word

The sound of your breathing soft and discrete

Or the rhythmic sounds of your heartbeat

I’d press my lips against it, to try and reminisce

Your intoxicating smell and the passion in your kiss

I would embrace it and try to once again feel

Being in your arms and feeling surreal

Then I’ll take that shell and place my feelings inside

Throw it back in the ocean and let the sea be the guide

Let it go through the waters so vast and blue

So it can find its way over to you

Maybe like me, in it you will find

The feeling of me and you intertwined

When someone you love is so far away

It seems like a year when it’s just been a day

You seem to live lifetimes in the passing of years

When you’re waiting for someone that your heart reveres

Still consider how many people can say

That they loved and lived a year in a day

I consider myself lucky and that is no lie

To have had so much time to say goodbye

So if I have to love you through a shell from the sea

I’d love you that way until you come back to me

And until that day should happen to fall

I feel blessed to be able to love you at all.
